“I’ve been a painter since I was very young. I attended the U of Minnesota, Moorhead, where I studied fine art and communications. I currently have a studio in downtown St. Cloud. I exhibit locally but even more so online where there is more freedom to express viewpoints that are controversial or political. I’ve always been against war as foreign policy, thinking it’s a failure in so many ways. My artwork includes my dislike of all war, not just the war in Iraq. I remember very clearly my shock when the Iraq war started, and I had to do something other than just talking about it online, so I painted a few things. The artwork I did is not hopeful because it was done earlier in the war. It expresses my shock and frustration at what a government can do to others in my name, without our approval, without our input, to the point where it felt like a personal offense. That shock is where most of this artwork is coming from.
I have discovered since 2004 and onward that there are a lot of people in this world horrified by war and what it does, and a lot of artists expressing that. It’s a way of coping and communicating which I’m grateful for. In many ways art can be therapy.”
